Testimonials

Rarity handbags

Working with SmisyFish design on the design and rethink on Rarity's labels was a rare pleasure. Michelle, was respectful of my ideas and requirements, and managed to pleasantly surprise me with the interpretation of my specifications. The fresh new edge given to Rarity's look has been appreciated by local upmarket establishments like the Mount Nelson hotel, as well as our extensive export clientele. To appeal to such a broad band of tastes is a design feet, the decreeing eye of these buyers is a true quality test.

I was able to deliver superb quality without the stress of late or incorrect deliveries.

When did i start playing?...

As a child we were always encouraged to draw and paint and make things, but Michaelis school of fine art in Cape Town 1992, was my formal tertiary tuition of 4 years, graduating in 1996. From there I went into a photographic field for Homes and Gardens magazine and the filming industry. The design side was more my strength and I started working for a publishing house as a junior designer/photographer. Within 6 months I was art director on one of the top publications at that time.

From strength to strength I explored the world of design, publishing and advertising, being hands on with every factor from flatplan, to conceptualisation, design, and handling of print. All in one - I made sure I had covered every aspect of producing a campaign and magazine from start to finish.

Publishing dominated my working world in the beginning of my career, working with SARFU on their custom publications, Vodacom with their Golf publications, illustrating and designing. As well as British Airways in-flight magazine. Nu Metro and Ster Kinekor, handling video sleeves, advertising, point of sale, and the likes. Being involved with an in-house design team in a printing company I was able to learn every process necessary to produce colour correct, print perfect products controlling quality and process, making my package complete.

The next step was taking advertising one step further to understand marketing and eventually flying solo.

Knowledge has became an intergral part of learning and experience.... and I have had the opportunity to work on everything from Corporate Identity, Logo design, Brochures, Packaging, Annual reports, Illustrations, Catalogues, Point of sale, Vehicle branding, Ad material, Web design, pdf and HTML Newsletters. Creative headspace from concept to print...
